Xero

Monk connects to Xero through the Xero Accounting API using OAuth 2.0. The integration keeps customer, invoice, payment, and credit-note data in sync for a single Xero organisation per Monk organization.

Supported entities

Authentication

  • Connect from Integrations → Xero in Monk. You are redirected to Xero to authorize Monk against your organisation.
  • Monk stores the resulting OAuth tokens encrypted and refreshes them automatically.
  • If Xero revokes the grant or a refresh fails, the connection shows Reconnect needed and prompts you to re-authorize.

Multi-entity, currency, and parent-child

  • Organisations: One Monk org connects to one Xero organisation. Connect additional Monk orgs to sync additional Xero organisations.
  • Currency: Invoices and payments keep their original Xero currency and exchange rate; Monk does not perform FX conversion.
  • Customer hierarchy: Xero contacts are flat, so Monk treats all customers as top-level accounts.

Configuration options

  • Payment account: choose the Xero bank or clearing account used for payment transactions.
  • Historical cutover date: limit how far back Monk imports invoices and payments.
  • Payment sync: enable or disable synchronization of payment records.
  • Auto-import: enable or disable automatic import of new Xero invoices and contacts.

Sync and reliability

  • Incremental sync using Xero If-Modified-Since change detection.
  • Payment records are applied per invoice, so each Xero payment maps to a single invoice allocation in Monk.
  • Automatic retry with backoff on Xero rate limits.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install anything in Xero? No. Xero is a hosted API; authorizing Monk through OAuth is the only step. Which Xero account should payments use? Any account with Enable payments to this account turned on in Xero. Monk lists eligible accounts during setup.
